How to write a prompt that works twice

Six parts to put in any instruction for an AI tool, so the second result is as good as the first.

Placeholder: this is an invented sample guide. The real Guides are Hyrum’s own how-tos.

A prompt that worked once may have been lucky. One that works twice has its intent written down. The prompt checklist puts these parts on one page.

1. Say the goal in one sentence

What should exist when the tool is done? Write it as a result, not as a task.

2. Name the reader

Who is the output for? A summary for a stranger reads differently from one for your future self.

3. Fix the format

Length, structure and tone. If you want a table, say so, and say which columns.

4. Give one good example

One real example of the result you want does more than a paragraph describing it.

5. Say what to avoid

One or two things the result must not do. Keep the list short, or the tool will fixate on it.

6. Say how you will judge it

Write the test you will apply to the result. If you cannot write the test, the goal is not clear yet.
